Hello, Vikings!
Today's patch is an exciting one, not only because it brings myriad improvements, but also because it delivers a bundle of new (and old) features for Vikings to enjoy. First, the combined build takes center stage as it becomes the optimal way to play. Second, daily quests are back with a vengeance, reinvented to bring variety to your days on Floki Island. And last but not least, amid the big fixes and improvements, we're introducing two new features: The Stash and The Bank. Both carry huge importance when it comes to the economy, utility, and the "end-game" of playing Valhalla.
Combined Tab becomes the new standard
After introducing the experimental full tab a few weeks back, we're happy to say that all of Valhalla is now unified under one tab and flow. Admittedly, this was only possible thanks to your help in play testing and reporting bugs—so well done! Furthermore, given how many of you have favored this mode, it will be here to stay.
The Stash & Permissions
We're introducing a new player interface called The Stash. It allows players with linked accounts to transfer almost anything from a Valhalla play account (Viking) to their wallets and then to other linked play accounts (other Vikings). So whether you keep a set of backup Veras or extra Runix in your wallet, you will now be able to withdraw and utilize those from any Viking at your disposal (that's connected to the same main account and wallet). The only things you cannot move to other accounts are soul-bound NFTs. Commonly, the game rewards players for Vera level-ups and completing quests with soul-bound rewards (only amulets for now). These are typically soul-bound specifically to keep Valhalla's economy intact against potential waves of bot accounts.
To allow Valhalla to help you move items in and out of your stash (wallet), you'll have to grant permissions through the My Account page on the Valhalla website. If your account is already linked, this means a very quick process of clicking a button and confirming a MetaMask transaction, and you're set.
The Bank
Finance enthusiasts and big spenders, Valhalla is now home to a Banking feature that might just be up your alley. Floki Island's Bank allows players to stake Runix in vaults. Bank vaults lock an amount of Runix for a week and gain interest both in the form of Runix and Onyx. Onyx is the premium currency in Valhalla, and there are central "end-game" features to spend it on. But for now, stash it wisely. Frequent bank users will be able to upgrade their vaults, increasing both the number of vaults at their disposal as well as their interest rates.
Daily Quests Return
Daily quests are back!
Every day, players will be assigned one easy, one medium, and one hard daily quest, each rewarding players who complete them with more Runix. The number and variety of daily quests have increased to offer more challenges.
Soulbound Items
To protect Valhalla’s economy from an influx of ambitious Vikings eager to raid its shops, we’re introducing Soulbound Items. These items are permanently bound to a character and, while usable in the game, cannot be sold, transferred, or removed. For instance, a Soulbound Amulet can be used to tame a Vera, but it cannot be sold to the shop or moved to the player’s Wallet via the Stash.
Amulets earned through completing the Tutorial or by leveling up Veras will be Soulbound. However, amulets dropped from battles or purchased from the shop will remain tradable.
Adjustments to Damage Calculations
As part of our efforts to ensure the game feels balanced and enjoyable, we have adjusted some variables in the damage calculations. These changes specifically address dealing too little damage to opponents that are higher level and have higher stats than you. The system still rewards Veras with higher stats with significantly higher damage, but now it does so without overly penalizing attacks against higher-level opponents.
Quality of Life Improvements & Bug Fixes
As usual, we tried to address issues you were facing and make the experience more streamlined. The following are all improvements and fixes we've added in this patch:
- You'll now be transported back to Floki Island automatically after an encounter battle.
- The map was updated with the new buildings on the island.
- Players will automatically be returned to the title screen after successfully linking their accounts.
- A sound effect was added for PvP when a match is found.
- We increased the speed of certain animations and visual effects in combat.
- We added opponent Vera tooltips to the draft screen in Vera Encounters.
- We added a notification for when amulets are given back from releasing a Vera at the daycare.
- We've fixed various bugs relating to finding and starting Vera Encounter battles.
- We've fixed tutorial-related bugs that prevented players from easily completing the tutorial.
- We fixed the issue where Klautjasar's Stormy Puff would sometimes show the wrong direction of where it is going to move next turn.
- We fixed various bugs related to timing out of battles while editing Vera Arsenals.
- We fixed the close inventory button during combat that didn't work as intended before.
That's all for today! While we've done our best to catch all the bugs, it's possible that a few might have slipped through. We have faith in our Vikings to help us identify and report any issues they come across. Don't hesitate to communicate with us about any problems or bugs you encounter through our community's Discord: https://discord.gg/NJXccsQSfg
Until next time!
